Who is this qualification for?

This qualification aims to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to seven years of age with applied knowledge in the early years, 0–5 years. To be awarded the Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner, learners must successfully complete 14 mandatory units, which have a total credit value of 37. The qualification content meets the Department for Education’s (DfE) Level 2 full and relevant criteria for a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner in the workforce. Upon successful completion of this qualification, learners can enter the workforce as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner or continue to study for a Level 3 Diploma holding Early Years Educator status.

Programme Delivery

This qualification is regulated by the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QFC). It provides learners with a wide range of knowledge and skills to support anyone working in childcare.

This knowledge-based qualification should be assessed in a realistic work environment that aligns with the relevant assessment strategy. To achieve the Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner, a learner must produce a portfolio of evidence and earn 37 credits comprising fourteen mandatory units.

Assessment plans and portfolio evidence will be assessed by a fully qualified and occupationally competent coach/assessor through a series of virtual online reviews on a one-to-one basis, using various methods. They will be delivered flexibly according to the learner’s needs.

Portfolio evidence will then be internally quality assured and externally certified by the Awarding Body NCFE.
