Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is required for those working and managing in children’s homes and is part of the children’s homes regulations, which came into force in April 2015. It provides you with the skills and knowledge needed to manage practice and lead others in residential childcare settings for children and young people. It will enable you to gain essential skills and knowledge for leading in a residential childcare setting, including leading and managing a team, leading and managing group living, leading practice to support children and young people and implementing policies and procedures. It will also allow you to cover optional topics that are particularly suited to specific residential childcare and respite care settings.

Programme Delivery

This qualification is regulated by the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QFC). It provides learners with a wide range of knowledge and skills to support anyone working in childcare.

This knowledge-based qualification should be assessed in a realistic work environment that aligns with the relevant assessment strategy. To achieve the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England), a learner must produce a portfolio of evidence and earn 65 credits comprising 57 credits from mandatory units and 8 credits from optional units.

Assessment plans and portfolio evidence will be assessed by a fully qualified and occupationally competent coach/assessor through a series of virtual online reviews on a one-to-one basis, using various methods. They will be delivered flexibly according to the learner’s needs.

Portfolio evidence will then be internally quality assured and externally certified by the Awarding Body NCFE.
