Who is this qualification for?
This qualification is made up of a single knowledge-based unit and aims to improve learners’ understanding of mental health. The qualification is appropriate for a wide range of people with an interest in raising their own understanding of mental health issues. It may also be particularly useful for those working within the voluntary and community sector and for others whose role calls for interaction with the public in their day-to-day work.
Programme Goals
The aim of this qualification is to:
Raise awareness of the issues surrounding mental health difficulties
Dispel some of the myths and misconceptions frequently linked to mental health issues.
Develop learners’ knowledge of the rights of those with mental health issues.
Learners will gain an understanding of when and how they should seek specialist help
This qualification will give candidates the opportunity to:

Develop knowledge of mental health issues that can be applied in the workplace

Programme Delivery
This qualification is regulated in the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) and provides learners with a wide range of knowledge of mental health issues that can be applied to any role. It provides learners with a range of knowledge to help them understand what causes stress and helps to develop approaches towards developing strategies towards understanding mental health issues and when to seek professional support.
This is a knowledge only qualification and is assessed using a mandatory workbook in line with the relevant assessment strategy and no real work environment placement is required.
To achieve the Level 1 Award in Mental Health Awareness a student must achieve 3 credits through the completion of one mandatory unit.
Assessment plans and portfolio evidence will be assessed by a fully qualified and occupationally competent coach/assessor virtually on a one-to-one basis using a variety of methods and delivered flexibly according to the needs of the learner.
Portfolio evidence including the workbook will then be internally quality assessed and externally certified by the Awarding Body NCFE.
